But maybe these will help somebody now.

Most of your fandom experience is shaped by who you follow. Find a good group of people and stick with them.

Support your favs and a lot of them will become your friends, or at least be friendly back to you.

Just unfollow people who bring unwanted content or negativity onto your dash.

Block people who cause you stress. It’s not worth your time to focus on parts of fandom that don’t make you happy.

Blacklisting words/tags is a tool you are allowed to use as much as you need to.

Don’t feel like you have to pretend to like things that make you uncomfortable in order to fit in. Set healthy boundaries for yourself.

Never tag your hate. Never send hate anons to someone.

Content creators love getting comments, seeing people gush in the tags on reblogs, and getting fans in their inbox. It’s the best way to motivate them to keep making awesome stuff.

If there’s certain content you want to see but it doesn’t exist yet, then make it. Draw the thing, write that fic. If you can’t, then comission an artist or writer, or send someone a prompt if they’re open to it. If you can’t do that either, then write meta or headcanons about it. Put it into the world.

Create what you love. Do it for yourself first and foremost, and if even one other person likes it too, then that’s a bonus.

I feel like the great irony of the Voltron fandom is that if Klance ever was planned to be canon – and given the production team’s work on Legend of Korra, it might have been – it definitely isn’t anymore.

Because, man, if I was making Voltron, and I had a group of fans accuse cast members and production team members of being paedophiles; threaten a cast member with assault; throw homophobic language at that same cast member; take photos of scripts and threaten to leak them if their pairing didn’t happen; rapidly just becoming a maelstrom of hatred for the show; and so on, and on, and on, ad infinitum – I would pretty quickly become determined not to ever do anything those fans want.

Not catering to those fans would be a point that absolutely couldn’t be budged on, both because giving anything they want, even things already planned, would be seen as acquiescing to them; and just as a point of sheer pride.

Rarely do I see a set of fans so completely and quickly just obliterate any chance they have of getting what they want, just by being a festering carbuncle of toxicity.

I feel what those other anons were saying, if you have been through actual CSA then I don’t see how you can act like a dumb ship and a horrible, life altering, traumatizing event are even remotely the same. Every time someone equates ships to pedophillia it makes me sick and I just want to scream. These people clearly don’t know what they are saying, and it fucks me up to hear people trivialize what I went through and how it still effects me to this day, just to throw salt at a fake couple.

Equating any kind of fictional content to legitimate trauma is just fucked up on so many levels like I really do not get how people cannot understand how disgusting it is to try and compare something that is completely fictional and didn’t happen to someone’s trauma which they physically went through and have to deal with for the rest of their life
