steven universe and my little pony friendship is magic has the exact same major fandom problem that makes it impossible to take either seriously as a fandom
and its that both are children’s cartoons for children that were designed to push morals like friendship, forgiveness, pacifism, and love
but the fandom consists mostly of adults who want it to be what they want instead who ignore these lessons in favor of wanting the shows to be about things like steven universe’s violent communist revolution and twilight turning evil and just grimdark grimdark grimdark
and man i’d really hate to see the cartoons you guys want honestly

So I joined an mlm server on discord. Literally only mlm are allowed in, everyone is a man that loves men.
One man just joined and immediately asked where he can post his “yaoi”
I don’t know why anti-fujoshi think mlm have issues with yaoi and shit lmao we like it just as much as “straight girls”
A significant part of the point of fandom, as I always experienced it, was to intentionally either find or create the most bizarre and/or disturbing shit you possibly could and watch your friends’ shocked reactions. It was not to write the same identical billion-word coffee shop AU over and over and over.
“You will never believe the fic I just found. It was some kind of near-future monkey’s paw dystopia where we had a custom-tailored, fan-run, pan-fandom archive all to ourselves… but most of the active categories were barren wastelands of identical billion-word coffee shop AUs, because writing anything more interesting would get you bullied out of the fandom, doxxed, and slapped with false pedophilia allegations by roving bands of semi-feral neo-puritans.”
“What the fuck? Who even comes up with this sick shit? Somebody dig up the link to the Lucius/Draco skullfucking fic, I need something less disturbing to scour that from my brain.”
SEMI-FERAL NEO-PURITANS
slam that reblog button if you’re a dirty nasty gross multishipper, or just a reasonable person that believes that harassing people over ships is for losers
If you ship characters because they deeply care about each other and have lots of chemistry, you are valid.
If you ship characters because they look hot together, you are valid.
If you ship characters because their relationship is an ideal and relationship goals for you, you are valid.
If you ship characters because their relationship is very intense, dramatic and full of conflict but you wouldn’t wish such relationship on your worst enemy, you’re valid.
If you ship only healthy ships, you’re valid.
If you ship something horribly unhealthy to cope with your trauma, you’re valid.
If you ship something horribly unhealthy because you want to explore a certain taboo and the darker side of human nature, you’re valid.
If you ship something horribly unhealthy because it excites you and gives you feels, you’re valid.
If your preferences in shipping align with your morals, you’re valid.
If your preferences in shipping have nothing to do with your morals, you’re valid.
Remember, fandom is about fun, not about wokeness and progressiveness.
Anti: reading this problematic fiction will warp your morals and make you believe bad things are ok!!
People who have been reading problematic fiction for 10+ years: no, we’re fine. Stories affect you as much as you let them and our morals are in line with the rest of society’s.
Anti: just you wait. you’ll all become evil. any day now. you won’t even see it coming. just you WAIT
Good: I headcanon this character as gay/lesbian!
Bad: I headcanon this character as gay/lesbian and if you ship them with someone of a different gender you’re being homophobic!
Worse: I headcanon this character as bi but if you ship them with someone of a different gender you’re being homophobic!
*side-eyes the Voltron fandom*
The difference.
And just to clarify some stuff about sheith: it´s two adults, they are not related, and they are not adoptive siblings.
Why do so many anti sh/eithers talk about this thing of Keith “originally being a minor when people shipped sh/eith back in earlier seasons” Keith has never been younger than 18 in canon other than the flashback scenes in this most recent season. His first confirmed canon age was 18 and now he’s 20 due to the time skip. Even before the confirmed ages pretty much everyone who shipped sh/eith saw Keith to be around 18/19. Him being 16/17 before the age release wasn’t a canon thing y’all antis just assumed he was way younger than he was because you wanted to make sh/eith problematic and are now trying to pretend it was a general consensus across both sides that he was 16/17 to begin with when it literally wasn’t.
you know what’s a great feeling? knowing that you haven’t sent death threats to a person over something as stupid as a relationship between two fucking fictional characters in a goddamn cartoon
