Does anyone else find anti-fujos who aren’t mlm sort of patronizing? Because I swear a lot of them sound like “Never fear, mlm, for I am not like those other disgusting fangirls! I care about your safety and protection! You can tell because I ship Klance and Kiribaku for the Good Representation and not for filthy, self indulgent reasons like a nasty fujoshi would!!!”

discoursecatharsis:

Yes, incredibly patronizing. This has been said before but they definitely give off a “I’m not like other girls” vibe

It’s think it’s also worth mentioning that anti fujos might be severely misinterpreting nd behavior in the western portion of fujoshis which is largely comprised of young queer girls. For example, my sisters best friend is a fujoshi and a lesbian. The odd way she expresses her adoration for the genre isn’t bc shes homophobic, it’s bc she’s severely ADHD and has a difficult time filtering her thoughts. It’s also her way of expressing herself and her sexuality outside confines of western romance.

challahchic:

Oh, absolutely! The fujoshi-as-cis-straight-abled-white-adult-woman is a strawman that covers up the complicated reality where fandom is made up mostly of marginalized folx just trying to have fun in a sandbox.

Lots of people (especially young people) don’t always have the best vocabulary for expressing their interests. That can be changed— and it has! The way we talk about slash/bl/mm media has shifted drastically, but sometimes young queer folx make in-jokes that are misread by people who presume malice rather than ignorance.
